EASY Go-To Healthy Snacks

Being sick is no fun. After a while it honestly just starts pissing me off. Thankfully I have a nurturing husband that picks-up the slack. However, it was still frustrating because it seemed as though I had no control over the situation. Apparently, somewhere along the way I stopped making my health a priority. Perhaps it’s because there are so many things that I have to do for other people, that when it came to myself I got lazy?? I don’t know. But I do know that I’ve taken my health for granted. At 37 years old, I’m pretty sure it’s time to STOP! While sick, I also had the unfortunate realization that good genes are not something I’ve been blessed with. It’s time to make some changes, & I’d like to make them as painless as possible.

For starters, I need to drink more water & keep healthy snacks close by, rather than the sugar I’ve grown accustomed to. I just have this overwhelming feeling that I lack the common sense that everyone else has about food. Still, I have to start somewhere. The Kale Chips recipe from self.com looks yummy! You should check it out, as it’s part of an article that includes 20 other “good-for-you snacks.” The Omelet in a Mug recipe from foodnetwork.com sounds, ummm…. interesting. Eggs in the microwave??! Shut-Up! I definitely have to try it… . . .

BRAINSTORMING

EASY GO-TO HEALTHY SNACKS

• Slice of Cheese + Fruit

• Hard-Boiled Egg + Fruit

• Protein Bar – Kind; Larabar; Luna

• Whole Grain Tortilla Chips + Salsa

• Handful of Almonds {or other nuts} + Fruit

• Yogurt + a ‘lil granola or healthy cereal +/or fruit

• Apple Slices or Banana + Peanut or Almond Butter

• Spoonful of Peanut Butter or Almond Butter + Fruit

• Whole Grain Toast + Peanut or Almond Butter + Fruit

• Fruit Alone! {I like pears, plums, kiwi, & peaches a lot!}

• Slice of Cheese + Tomato {or Cucumber} + Whole Grain Toast

• Oatmeal + Whole Grain Bread w/Peanut or Almond Butter +/or Fruit

• Belvita Breakfast Biscuits + Peanut or Almond Butter or a little Nutella for a sweet fix!

• Hummus + Carrots, Broccoli, Red/Green Peppers, Cucumbers, Snap Peas, Edamame, etc.

    I love these ideas for healthy snacks!! I definitely need to turn things around and go for the healthier choices, so thanks for helping me get started! I do have to say, I’ve tried the omelet in a mug and it was really good! Another thing I’ve been snacking on is cherry tomatoes. I LOVE tomatoes, and the small cherry or grape tomatoes are sweet too, so they can satisfy that craving! When in the mood for salty, a serving of 98% fat free popcorn will do the trick! Thanks for all the great articles!!
