The Oil-Cleansing Method: My Two Cents

<center>The Oil-Cleansing Method: My Two Cents</center>

When I first came across The Oil-Cleansing Method I was beyond skeptical. Being someone who is always on the lookout for mattifying beauty products, I wondered why anyone would willingly put oil on their face… especially to cleanse it?! However, as I did a little research, my curiosity began to out-weigh my skepticism. Did you know there is a whole website dedicated to the oil-cleansing method? Yeah, it’s kind of a big deal. Stephanie, the apparent author & owner of The Beauty Bottle, has a unique way of explaining it so that it all makes sense. “Your skin naturally lubricates itself with oil, & as we are creatures of adaptation, one can believe that if this weren’t the appropriate built-in care for ourselves, our bodies would have adapted to suit the need. . .  Your skin naturally produces oil because it needs it. . .  Not only does your natural oil help lubricate, it also heals, protects, & moisturizes your skin so that it may function properly. Properly functioning skin is beautiful, clear, & glowing.”

– The Problem –

Blemishes {pimples, cysts, zits, blackheads, etc.} are a result of several different factors, such as hormones, bacteria, &/or dead skin cells; but NOT oil. Oil is NOT the problem. Our skin naturally produces oil because it needs it. Often the problem is mainstream skin care products. For example: my continuous trial & error use of harsh, drugstore/department store cleansers & creams has left my sensitive skin red, inflamed, & confused.

These products strip the oil out of our skin, leaving our largest organ trying to repair itself by replacing the oil stripped away. This leaves us in a cycle of being tight & dry followed by the inevitable oil slick. Each time we strip the oil away, our skin over-compensates for the lack of moisture by creating more oil. On top of the drying effects, these products are highly scented. Fragrance is one of the top skin irritants & strangely enough, even the so-called “unscented” products usually contain fragrance. … Dry, irritated skin replaced by oily skin, inflamed & trapping debris?”

Wow… sadly, this describes my skin perfectly.

– The Fix –

The big thing to keep in mind when cleansing & moisturizing your face is that oil dissolves oil.

The Oil-Cleansing MethodYou Will Need: 1)Pure Castor Oil 2)Pure Sunflower Seed Oil 3)Clean Storage Bottle 4)Washcloth 5)Hot Running Water {obviously, not scalding hot} 6)Measuring Device

This is meant to be done at nighttime, before bed.

♦ Mix your personal oil blend according to your skin type. The above graphic is simply a guideline; personalize it to fit your specific needs.

♦ Pour about a quarter-sized amount into the palm of your hand. Rub your hands together & then gently massage oil onto your face. Continue gently, thoroughly massaging into your skin. It’s going to feel so rich, luxurious, & soothing that you won’t want to stop!

♦ Once you feel that your pores are well saturated & the oil has been evenly distributed, wet your washcloth with hot water {obviously, not scalding hot}. Set the washcloth on your face until it cools & then very gently wipe some of the oil off. The hot steam will open your pores & allow the oil & impurities to be removed. Repeat this step 2-3 more times. You’re finished!

♦ If your skin feels a little tight/dry, rub a little of your oil mixture between your wet fingers & gently pat onto skin.

♦ You shouldn’t need to wash your face the next morning, just gently wipe with a wet wash cloth & you’re good to go.

♦ This should be done regularly but not too often, as it is a deep-cleansing & can over-dry.

♦ You may have more oil production for the first few days, as you are removing the plugs from your pores & they’re beginning to function properly again.

♦ It’s suggested to replace your storage bottle, rather than wash it, each time you whip-up a new batch to avoid bacteria-growth. That would pretty much defeat the whole process.

My skin was extremely irritated, so I used a mixture of about 15% Castor Oil & 85% Sunflower Seed Oil. My face felt great, just a tad dry. Next time I will use less Castor Oil. I couldn’t immediately see a difference but I could feel that my skin liked it. The next morning I saw a big difference! My blemishes weren’t all gone but the inflamed, red irritation was drastically reduced. My pores appeared clearer & smaller. My skin simply looked & felt healthier… Healthier than it has in a very long time. I can’t wait to do it again; wish I could do The Oil-Cleansing Method every night! It is simply amazing. Although I still have blemishes, I feel that I’m on the right path now. I’m on my way to a clear complexion. According to the website, “Clear skin is attainable.” For the first time in a very long time, I kind of believe that. You should visit theoilcleansingmethod.com for yourself, it’s one of the few things that does what it says. How refreshing!

What is YOUR favorite skin care ritual??
