Personality Type :: Self-Discovery 101

Sometimes there are things in this world that simply escape us. We go through our adult lives not knowing that, well, we don’t know. Like, for example, that you don’t pronounce the “w” in “sword.” Somehow these common bits of knowledge elude us. And then one day, they hit us upside the head, hard. And we’re like, “How in the world did I not know this?!”

~ Or is that just me? ~

Okay, so I’ve heard of Myers-Briggs. I’ve even seen those four capital letters floating around from time-to-time. And I know there are different personality types. I simply didn’t make the connection, ask a question, or do any research. I know. Don’t rub it in, I already feel dumb enough.

But just in case someone reading this doesn’t know either, The Myers-Briggs Type Indicator {MBTI} assessment is a psychometric questionnaire designed to measure psychological preferences in how people perceive the world & make decisions. For more info., including all 16 Personality Types, checkout The Myers & Briggs Foundation.

So I was looking at someone’s Twitter profile & noticed those four capital letters. Considering that I’d seen them before, my curiosity took over & I quickly typed the letters into my web browser. OH MY! My world opened up!

How did I not know about this?? It’s kind of like Self-Discovery 101, isn’t it? If you know me at all, this kind of stuff rocks my world. I got lost in it. I came upon a website, 16 Personalities, where I took a quick test. It takes “less than 12 minutes.” I was surprised by the accuracy of this test, especially considering the short amount of time it took to complete. The free results were extensive & thorough.

The 16 Personalities free results consist of:

  1. Introduction
  2. Strengths & Weaknesses {an explanation of each}
  3. Romantic Relationships
  4. Friendships
  5. Parenthood
  6. Careers
  7. Workplace Habits
  8. Conclusion
  9. Option to Buy the Premium Profile for $32.99 {I personally opted not to purchase}

I do realize that this is only one short test not given by a professional, but I’m telling you, it’s crazy accurate. If nothing else, it’s fun. Well, there are parts of it that aren’t so fun. The weaknesses portion forced me to get real honest with myself. As I said, the results are thorough. They pointed out things that I subconsciously already knew were there. But they’re kind of hard to ignore when they’re in front of you in black & white.

  1. Johnny Depp and Julia Roberts…I’d say you’re in good company…or should I say they’re in good company ☺ How am I not surprised that you then researched this after you saw what it was. Don’t feel ashamed, you’re not dumb, not one bit. I have only just heard of this through you. Now I’m going to do the test.
